So this week just blasted through. Honestly, I have no updates for you! My travel / song festival / people visiting marathon is over. My sister left back to the States this afternoon, and I remain here, back to my job and my blogging. I will admit to being a little lost because of the change! So this is going to be an incredibly short blog update.
~ Last Week On The Blog ~
Last week I had a loooooot of mini reviews! Gosh, they’re so satisfying. Now I have a nearly empty queue of read books that need to be reviewed! If you’re a reviewer and I asked you to raise your hand if you know what that feeling is, I’m sure I’d be looking a LOT of hands right now. Aside from the mini reviews, we also had a #NewBloggersWelcome post which was just as exciting as last time. Go check it out!
~ Coming Up Next Week~
Next week I’ve got a review for a thriller called The Anomaly lined up, as well as – finally! – a discussion post: is ARC reading kind of like school summer reading lists?

~ Little Book Haul ~
And I finally hauled some books. Crooked Kingdom was almost an impulse buy – after reading Six of Crows with Marie @ Drizzle & Hurricane Books as a buddy read, I couldn’t just let it go – I had to buy and start reading the sequel. I also requested some books on Edelweiss and remembered what a wonderful feeling it was when that approved email arrives in your inbox! I got granted The Spaceship Next Door and I’m excited to start it soon. And the two last ones, Ready Player One and The Red Clocks, are from my #BloggerBestie Danielle @ Books, Vertigo & Tea! Danielle, you are wonderful ❤
~ In The Bookish Community ~
Chloe @ Book Dragons invites us all for a midsummer blog clean up!
Sheetal @ Halo of Books talks about book blogging expectations vs the reality, and it’s so relatable you will laugh
So how has your week been? And what are you reading? What did you haul?
As usual, I’m linking up with the Sunday post meme at Kimba’s book blog and Stacking The Shelves over at Tynga’s Reviews.
I’m Evelina and I try to blog about books that matter, with a bit of fun there too! Disability and equality will be topics you see a lot, but there’s also a lot of scifi, fantasy and… GIFs. I’m also the proud founder of #ARCsAnonymous.
I need to do more mini- reviews. I agree they are kind of satisfying to belt those out. 🙂
I love the sound of your ARC reading post- looking forward to that!
Thanks, Greg 🙂 oh yeah, mini reviews are so liberating 🙂
I love mini reviews! I tend to save those for books I didn’t love or hate, and then do a post with 3-4 books. I also use mini reviews when I have a lot of children’s books to review. There’s only so much you can say about something that has 25 pages and almost as many words. 😉
L @ Do You Dog-ear?
I think all of us love mini reviews 😀 they are so awesome. Both to read and to write. I think I might be doing mini reviews more often now 🙂
I guess that I am late to the game, but I really want to read Ready Player One. I also want to read Red Clocks. That book may be a bit disturbing based on trends in The United States. When you read these books I look forward to your commentary on them.
I haven’t read Ready Player One yet, despite hauling it, but I hope to get around to it soon 🙂 same for Red Clocks!
Looking at my list of books I need to review I can definitely understand (and am slightly jealous) of the satisfaction you get from finally catching up!
You should totally try mini reviews too then 🙂
I try to review right after I finish a book, but every once in a while, the books pile up. When I bang out all those reviews, and see check marks next to all my books, I feel a huge sense of accomplishment.
Me too! I’m often unable to review right away, and I can’t even tell you why – probably just lack of time. So they do pile up xD
I like doing the mini reviews, I try to do one once a week. I hope you have a great week!
Thank you 🙂
Ah thanks for sharing my post girl! Six of Crows is amazing isn’t it? I love the crew just, aaaah I love that duology and that world so much 🙂 hope you have a great week!
My pleasure 🙂 yeah – Six of Crows was amazing! I immediately started the sequel, but then also realized I have a trip planned, so a mini hiatus, and also I have to read like 4 review copies. So I had to put it awayyyyyy noooo. Hopefully I’ll read it when I’m done with scheduling the posts 🙂
And thanks!!
Great books your reading Evelina! Enjoy your week.
Thank you 🙂
I have never done a mini review. That is so sad, I may have to do some at some point. I just never have a back log of books to review so it doesn’t make sense to wait, I guess. Hope you have a lovely week, Evelina
I admire you for not having a backlog of books! For me it happens all too often. But yeah, mini reviews are awesome if you lack time (or thoughts…) to review in more detail. I’ve been struggling with, er, HAVING THOUGHTS about books that didn’t quite engage me!
I am tempted by the idea of mini-reviews! My system is functional, and I always review right after finishing a book….but wouldn’t it be fun to quickly move on?
Thanks for sharing, and for visiting my blog.
I sometimes don’t have time to review right after finishing cause it might be before bedtime and then I won’t have time for three days, or I have to post something else.. so there’s just an infinite buffer!
Wow! Love your little book haul, especially Ready Player One and Crooked Kingdom! I really need to read those books soon (I’m SO BEHIND on my TBR list)!
Thanks 🙂 I think you would love Six of Crows/Crooked Kingdom. It was a great series.
You had such a busy few week! The choir trip looked like great fun even if it was time consuming. I really enjoyed reading about the new bloggers; it’s so cool you do it. Another great book haul you have. Enjoy reading and maybe a quieter but just as wonderful week! Anne – Books of My Heart
Thank you Anne! I saw your haul just now and it was amazing 🙂 thanks, yeah – the choir trips are usually super tiring, but well worth it 🙂
Yeahhhh this week basically did not exist for me hahaha
It’s still kind of continuing for me xD
Running to Sheetal now 😉 Thanks Evelina and happy Sunday!
Thank you 🙂
I need to do another round of mini-reviews. Some times it so great to just get a bunch of them finished.
Yes, those are always fun 🙂
Are mini reviews as good as long ones? Can I put them up instead of the long winded ones? I have never tried this instead of a long post for a book. Have a wonderful week. Enjoy the quiet while you can.
Mary my #SundayRoundup #27!
Well, it’s your blog so you can do whatever you want! And that includes mini reviews, if you want them 🙂 surprisingly, mini reviews tend to get more traffic!
I’m hoping to know what an empty review queue feels like soon—I have three I still need to write We’ve already chatted about some of it, but you’ve got a lovely little book haul this week 🙂 I recently caved to pressure and bought the Six of Crows duology too. I’m hoping I can get to it before the end of the year! Here’s hoping you get to enjoy a little peace and quiet this week 🙂
Six of Crows was really awesome, so I don’t think you’ll regret caving to the peer pressure 🙂 and three on the review lust isn’t so bad! That’s what I have going most of the time xD I wasn’t all empty after the mini reviews either, but there’s a definite difference between twenty and just a few xD I have like five now though… again xD
Sometimes it can be such a breather to have life wind down for a little bit and be able to breathe! It sounds like you’d been busy so much lately that I am sure this was a bit of a relief! I hope you enjoy Crooked Kingdom and Ready Player One is one I own and have heard good things about too, but have yet to start in on.
My recent post: https://oliviascatastrophe.com/2018/07/5083/
Oh yeah, it’s like I was busy for three months straight, I don’t even know xD I’m only just recovering from it now. It was a whirlwind. Funny to look back on it!
Ooh I’m curious about your upcoming discussion post. Sounds interesting! Coming home from vacation and just generally not being that busy all of a sudden can be a weird change.
-Lauren
Indeed 🙂
Wow, sounds like you’ve been busy! Yay for getting more caught up on reviews! I have a ridiculous backlog of reviews. I swear I have books I read 3 years ago that I still haven’t posted a review for. Like, they’re all written and everything, but there are always other books that need reviews too??? It’s a real problem lol. Have a great week!
I have been indeed 🙂 we haven’t caught up in ages! Oh wow, three years ago 😀 that’s going to be tough to review. Maybe you should write those off? Cause I feel like it would be a chore to review something you read so long ago.
Wait, they’re written? xD oh man.. Yeah, okay 😀 yes, it sounds like you need a mini reviews post as well 😀 haha 😀
Oooh you just reminded me that I have The Spaceship Next Door too, it looks good, I look forward to your review! And I feel you on mini-reviews, if it wasn’t for mini-reviews… well things would be bleak hah. Though I do NOT know what a nearly empty queue of reviews feels like- I assume fabulous, so good for you!!
You do? Well it’s definitely recommended. Have you read it yet? (Cause I’m a bit behind on the comments xD) it’s such a lovely book. And don’t worry, my review queue is back to being pure chaos 😀 doesn’t take long 😀 😀 😀
LOL I love the tag line for your post and know just what you mean. I swear sometimes I can’t even remember what I did. Here’s to anew one!
My Sunday Post
I have been like that every week now so I feel like I should maybe change up the format of my Sunday posts xD
I wish I was caught up on reviews. That never seems to happen. I have to write 5 of them in the next few days. Have a great week!
I know right, it’s not easy at all 🙂 thank you!
I’ve been thinking of doing more mini-reviews as well, I’m way behind. I tend to save them for when I’m drowning in reviews to write, which describes my current situation quite well.
I hope you have a lovely week!
Yes, they are definitely liberating 🙂 you should!
I know that this week was something of a blur, too – to the extent that I’m joining the Sunday Post on Monday. I’m glad the mini-reviews are really working well for you – it’s a lovely feeling to be up to date on arcs:) Have a great week, hopefully this one won’t whizz by quite so fast!
Thank you! Well, at least I’m not the only one who has been busy 🙂
I just finished a book called Lizzie and now I’m reading a new ARC of a cozy mystery series which is Christmas themed. I NEVER read Christmas in the summer but my bookie BFF convinced me. Then I’ll be back to horror and thrillers. For some reason The Spaceship Next Door really interests me so I’m curious to hear your thoughts. Have a wonderful week!
I wholeheartedly recommend The Spaceship Next Door and I’ll be posting a review on August 27th 🙂
Crooked Kingdom looks awesome! Have a great week!
Thank you!
I love mini reviews too! I prefer those now more than anything. It’s a lot easier. 🙂
Hope you have a great week!
Thank you 🙂
i picked up an arc of red clocks for a friend, i love the sound of it!
I haven’t read it yet, but I peeked at the first pages and it’s sounding great 🙂
Oh my god! I’m so happy you go Crooked Kingdom! You are going to LOVE IT!
Yes, I totally loved it 🙂
I hope you had fun with all that RL socializing! but… yay back to blogging! I’m kinda of doing that too after being MIA. Sorry I haven’t been around. I plan to amend that situation going forward 🙂
Same with me, OMG, I miss everyone 😀
Omg, I love mini reviews as well. It’s nice to be able to get your thoughts down without the pressure of going into depth. AND I ALSO JUST BOUGHT CROOKED KINGDOM!!! I read Six of Crows ages ago and finally decided that I want to continue the series. xD Also looking forward to your ARC vs school reading post.
I loved Crooked Kingdom as much as I loved the first one, but I think you might have to reread Six of Crows before you read it. The story is quite complicated 🙂 I’m sure you’ll like it though 🙂
I’m really excited for your ARC vs school reading post! I’ve definitely been feeling that lately….
Also, I recently read Red Clocks and it was….interesting. I feel like I’m still processing everything she was trying to say. It’s a fascinating book with a lot going on. And it’s a lot to take in. I hope you enjoy it!
Thanks! I still haven’t read Red Clocks, but I hear it’s a strong book. Thank you 🙂
You did so well with all the book reviews and I love your book haul. I want to get Six of Crows at some point.
Lucy ~ lucyturnspages.co.uk
I can definitely recommend Six of Crows 🙂
I have such a backlog of books that I need to review. It is a problem. I have thought about doing some mini-reviews and may have to try it out. Have a great week and enjoy your new books!
Mini reviews are the absolute best! You should really try 🙂 and thanks 🙂
I loved your mini reviews. Well, my week was quite busy too. In fact, I haven’t posted anything on my blog in a week.
I had no idea that Marie’s Six of Crows read was a buddy read with you 😛 Since she updated on Twitter about her feelings, I got to know. I am glad that you both enjoyed it 🙂
Thank you, Sim 🙂 yeah, summer can be a busy time! Yeah, it was a buddy read. I actually missed her tweets cause I was too busy and she didn’t tag me xD she also read it faster because I was… busy xD but we will be posting buddy read reviews! 🙂
Aren’t mini reviews great! You don’t feel you abandoned those books! Great books to read next. ♥️ Have a great week!
Yeah, mini reviews are amazing 🙂
I only recently did some mini-reviews for the first time. Honestly, I didn’t find them all that gratifying. I feel like I’d prefer to have un-reviewed books rather than write mini-reviews. I need to spend some more time reflecting. Perhaps it’s more that I don’t like these seemingly unrelated books all smashed together? Hm. Such a great haul!!! I will admit, I’m a bit jealous that Danielle is your #BloggerBestie, but I guess I’ll let it pass. 😉 I haven’t spoken to you since more-or-less before Romania! How did that happen?! I saw Chloe’s blog tidying list– it makes me… Read more »
I found them really liberating 🙂 I just had too many xD some of those books.. I didn’t like them enough or have enough thoughts to write a really long review. It was driving me nuts xD
You’re also my blogger bestie, woman 😀 THERE CAN BE MORE THAN ONE!! And yes. We could indeed be speaking more T_T
Nope, I didn’t do anything on the list, but I tidied the blog unrelatedly xD I made an alphabetical list… 🙂
