Book hauls, Sunday post

Um… NetGalley And Edelweiss Spree Anyone? Sunday post #94

Oh, I’ve been a a bad book blogger this week. Why, you ask me? Well… 😃

  • I went on NetGalley. Again and again. How many books, you say? 6 x.x
  • As if that’s not enough, I also went on Edelweiss. Yes, how many indeed? 4 x.x
  • (You ask how. I just get the ‘Read now’ titles xD nobody approves internationals, so I don’t even bother!)
  • And as if that’s not enough, I also hauled a few sale items.
  • I don’t even WANT to look at my haul for this week, or this month.
  • But I also kind of really loved it? 😂
  • Having done all that, I proceeded almost not to read for the entirety of the week.
  • I appear to be in something of a slump. Been working so much, trying to make up for my sick leave, that I haven’t had energy to read after I’m done.

Returning to work… Also went in an interesting way. I left for only two days, but it seems that nearly everything that could have gone wrong in that time.. did go wrong 😂 more than that… it seems half the people are quitting, now or later, for personal reasons. What does that mean for me? Well… Who do you think is going to be doing their job..? I don’t even know how I’m going to manage. It’s been a tough week for sure!

 ~ What I’ve Been Reading ~

When I said I’ll read pretty much anything by Rivers Solomon and Becky Chambers, I wasn’t kidding. And having gone through most of The Vela, I know I wasn’t wrong to say that! It’s SO good! It’s also incredibly long though, but surprisingly – it does not drag you down – it’s very good quality content as well. I’ve got one last go to finish the book, and I think I’ll be finishing it next week, but it’s so big! I’m also really glad that two authors I love essentially introduced me to another few authors that I’m sure I’ll be reading in the future as well, because The Vela is co-written by more than two authors, and it floors me how well it’s been done! The chapters are completely fluent and fit so well together, I would have never guessed it wasn’t written by one person. It’s a very smart, super diverse and very engaging story, and it just covers SO. MUCH. GROUND. Oppression, racism, refugee crises and exclusionism, oh my god… You’ll have to wait for my review to read about it all. And it’s not only that – there are several things I’m loving about this book a lot, like the fact that it’s pretty much my first book with a non-binary character who isn’t questioned, just presented that way, and so naturally as well. And then there’s the fact that almost all the positions of power are filled by some incredibly strong women, some of which are also disabled, and it will not slow them down in the least, not that they’d even think something like that could. The book is incredibly empowering, and it talks about all the right things. Plus, political intrigue! The adventure!  (The character Niko!!!! Fangirl moment.) Man. I am basically in love with The Vela. A full review soon to come!

~ What I’ve Been Talking About ~

Last week I talked about two books I truly loved Heavy Flow and The Secret of Dinswood. The first one is something I think all women should read, and the second one is a fun middle grade cozy mystery that I completely adored. Here are the reviews:

~ What I’ll Talk About Next Week ~

Next week I’ll be reviewing a book about neuro-divergent teens kicking ass, The Spec Set, and I will also be scheduling a new #NewBloggersWelcome post (or at least I will try to tomorrow!)

Oh my, a ten book haul plus purchases? Sounds like you could be one if the job quitters because you’ll need the reading time!
It’s not fun when you’re the one left trying to cope with other people’s jobs on top of your own workload though. Please make sure you don’t take on too much and get ill as a result. Self care is important 🙂

I’m living for all those gorgeous floral covers!! And I totally understand how somehow our TBRs accidentally run away with us (it’s totally not our fault, right?!). I have this terrible habit of reviewing 1 book on Netgalley and thinking that equals I can request like, um, 3 more. And then I ask why my TBR never goes down. A Mystery. Truly. (I’m glad you had a good reading week!!)

Sometimes, a NetGalley and Edelweiss spree is the only way to go 🙂 I think some of your new books look absolutely fantastic, and they all look good!
Don’t fret about reading a little less one week – we’re only human, Evelina 🙂
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading.

I feel for you! Going back to work after being off sick is a punishment! It almost makes being off sick not worth it…
I did what you did but last week… Hauled 10 books and then proceeded to read nothing, lol.
We’ll catch up eventually, right?

Oh good lord honey hold my beer. Even my hiatus aside my Edelweiss and Netgalley life was out of control long ago. Getting approved for ARCs is some kind of power control addiction. I think the forced hiatus has taught me a lesson about being more choosy and my mom getting sick, I think most publishers have really understood. But still I have learned a lesson.. I think. And I am determined to review the ones I have and in between go backwards and review the ones I missed while on hiatus. If I told you my numbers you would… Read more »

I read the Madeleine L’Engle books years ago. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did. Happy reading!

Well Evelina so far I haven’t hauled anything from Edelweiss (always denied) and Netgalley gives my maybe 30% of the books I request? And I don’t request many ARCs as I try to read the books on my TBR! Now about work …good luck because of course you’ll end up doing their job as you are the one with experience!

I’m jealous of this haul! I’ve been trying to be good and actually getting through the books I have with me (since I’m on tour for the year), but with all of the bookstores around the country it’s really difficult to not get some new ones…

I nabbed a couple from Netgalley and two from Edelweiss. I never learn. LOL Now the stress is on to get them read and reviewed and I’m still playing catch up on ones that have been waiting too long. Hopefully you will find a book that wows you and chases away those work blues:)

We all have those days (weeks) where we go crazy with requesting lol. I hope you enjoy all the books whenever you get to them! That sucks about everything going wrong at work, I know how frustrating that can be 🙁

Next week sounds gruesome. I hope you have some downtime with books and blog and everything settles soon.

I actually have been so good about my NetGalley requests lately because I really want to get my ratio to 90% at some point this year and I don’t want to make that an unachievable goal for myself! But I do find myself lurking more on Goodreads and NetGalley and buying books off Amazon during the times I read the least. I wonder why that is? Also, every single book you hauled looks beautiful!

That SAlly Red Shoes cover is so gorgeous!

Nice book haul (just embrace all the new haha)! And the Secret of Dinswood looks fun!

Hope the work stuff goes well and not too bad with all the people leaving.

I was on both Netgalley and Edelweiss and got several audio publisher emails. And now there’s a new Audible sale. Shoot me now.

I love Madeline L’Engle so those look interesting. I love all the nature covers.

Take a bit of time for yourself and enjoy the books! You can only do what you can.

TBRs have a way of multiplying!! Hope you enjoy the reads. And may ‘time’ multiply for you as well so that you can read them all in peace

Those are some pretty, pretty book covers you got!

Don’t even get me started with NetGalley. Any book I’d like to read is on wish for it

Sounds like a lot of shake-ups at work. Hopefully not everyone is leaving at the same time. It All Comes Back to You and The Wisdom of Sally Red Shoes have such stunning covers!

I told myself to STAY AWAY from NetGalley this year until I was completely caught up on my review books, but then I got on to post a review and… I failed. There were so many amazing books just begging to be requested! Now my planner is full to bursting with things to read the next few months, haha. Good luck!

I think you should get the books while you can! Some great books are on Netgalley and Edelweiss right now. You have a great haul of books filled with yummy titles. Happy reading❤️❤️

I had an unintentional NetGalley binge this week too. Mainly a ton of books I requested EONS ago were suddenly approved, after I had decided they wouldn’t be. OOPS. Hehe.

Lol I am trying to get some book in my TBR pile read down before I even pen Netgalley again. I tend to go nuts there too. Lol Fantastic post! The Vela sounds really good. 🙂
