Book hauls, Sunday post

I Need More Time And Maybe A Hiatus? Sunday post #42

Tough week! And it flew by, as usual. Nothing too special I can update you on this week, but here’s everything in a nutshell:

  • quite a few audiobooks, which helps in dealing with anxiety quite well, as it turns out!
  • a lot of book review requests (or maybe I just cleaned out my email, finally…)
  • my first Audible review request, yay!!
  • unfortunately, as of now, my computer needs to be restarted every 30 minutes because something is wrong with the wifi and ethernet controller and it just forgets the internet. I think it’s the Fall Creators update that sparked this, and I can’t roll it back anymore either. GEE THANKS, MICROSOFT.
  • another funny thing is that it seems so many people are now getting their books approved on Edelweiss after changing up their profiles, following last week’s post, but… I have been declined for pretty much every single one since xD karma is odd..?
  • reduced goals rock!! I have reduced last year’s goal pretty much two times, and yet I find that I am reading at last year’s pace, minus the stress. Good decision.

Unfortunately, real life, anxiety and blogging responsibilities are making me think I need a hiatus – otherwise this blog might disappear off the face of the Earth completely. I don’t think I’ll be taking a hiatus, since I just can’t see myself doing that, but I am planning to post one less post for a few weeks. That should take the edge off, cause I was struggling with the number of posts.

~ Last Week On The Blog ~

This week, we had two reviews – The Plague Charmer and The Mermaid and Mrs Hancock. We also had our typical #NewBloggers 101 post about how to get more comments and not get lost in the complications of book blogger etiquette:

plague charmer  the mermaid and mrs hancock

~ Coming Up Next Week~

So you might have realized that I’m struggling with time, real life and posts right now. So I don’t actually have the next week planned out yet *inner organized blogger dies* I only have one post scheduled currently, and it’s a review for a book I truly loved! I hope you will check it out, it’s definitely worth the attention.

the king of bones and ashes

~ Little Book Haul ~

So three of those are review requests which I dug out of my email this week! I would say it was a good week, huh. I’m super excited about the Audible book, it’s my first. And also the Feathered Serpent – the myths of Mexico. I’m so sorry this post is not any better and more informative because I am just a half baked little chicken nugget today (this week… this month…) So just look at the pretty books:

Tess and Tattoos The Meifod Claw: A Comedy Dragon's Future (Dragon Courage #1) Feathered Serpent, Dark Heart of Sky: Myths of Mexico

So how has your week been? And what are you reading? What did you haul?

As usual, I’m linking up with the Sunday post meme at Kimba’s book blog and Stacking The Shelves over at Tynga’s Reviews.

I’m Evelina and I try to blog about books that matter, with a bit of fun there too! Disability and equality will be topics you see a lot, but there’s also a lot of scifi, fantasy and… GIFs. I’m also the proud founder of #ARCsAnonymous.

Thanks for the shoutout, Evelina! And like I said yesterday, it’s okay if you take it slow for a few weeks. Your mental health is more important. Aaaand, three posts a week is still a good number. You can do this! ❤️❤️ *sends mental puppies and brownies*

Oh man audible reviews. I’ve never actually got them before (sad face). And it’s getting really annoying that I can’t have audiobooks, with my busy schedule, I barely have time to actually read. So audiobooks would’ve been really useful.

That is quite the book haul! And hope you manage to find your own time a bit more

Lovely to hear about the Edelweiss advice having a positive effect, I hope you sort your computer and can find a happy middle road to keep your blog working.
Perhaps one of your readers can help with computer advice?

I think a hiatus, less posts, whatever you need to not feel stressed about blogging is a good decision, Evelina! You don’t have to post anything – and you know we’ll all be here if you take a break. You have been very busy with the international and new bloggers groups, too, so I have just have no idea how you do it all? Have you somehow been able to add more hours to your days? YAY for getting review requests for interesting books by e-mail. And that’s weird that other people have gotten more accepted ARCs from Edelweiss, but… Read more »

Hiatus might be a good idea. Not only for your you but your blog as well. And it’s okay if you post less number of posts as long as you feel happy and fresh. <3 <3

If you need some time for yourself make sure you take it! Your well being is always more important and taking it easy is the most relevant thing of all. I am sure those requests will all turn into approvals soon 😉 Don’t worry about it!

I took a bit of an unplanned hiatus (or at least a cutback from what I had been doing) and am trying to come back now. Sometimes you just have to do what you have to do. And yay! for Audible reviews! 🙂

Lots of good things happened. Being asked to review a book is such a compliment. I especially like it when the book falls into the genres I describe in my profile as books I will review. I think it’s smart to pull back a little to avoid burnout. I would be sad if you disappeared completely.

Sorry you’re having a hard time, love! I went through that a lot when I had my last semester of school, and was just drowning in all my responsibilities. I think I would have felt better if I’d taken a planned hiatus. One less post a week and lowered goals are great choices, though, and hopefully things look up soon!

Hope everything is okay, just take some time away – even if like you said it’s not completely but just a post a week instead I think will really relax you 🙂

Never feel bad about scaling back or taking a break. I had to take a whole month off last year, because of my crazy life I was just too busy to read and blog, and I was so excited to come back and start blogging again

It’s totally okay not to post super often! Personal life and health are so important, and if posting less will help you focus on those, then that’s absolutely fantastic. Even if you post a bit less, we’re all still here to support each one you churn out. ^_^

Joining the chorus to say you should absolutely do what’s best for your happiness and sanity 🙂 You do so much for this community and I know I’m not the only one who appreciates how much hard work goes into all of it. No matter how often you update, I’ll be scrambling back here to read each new post 🙂

Ugh, having to restart your computer all the time sounds so aggravating! I’m so impressed by how often you post, but don’t overwork yourself! Taking breaks is good for you. 🙂

That’s irritating about your computer and I feel your pain. Mine flat out died last week and I’ve been trying to get the new one all updated and setup. And that’s not nice about Edelweiss. Sometimes they can be kind of cranky. I got denied for a book on Edelweiss than was approved for the same book on NetGalley. Not sure what was going on there! I like your idea for giving yourself a break blogwise. It can be hard to remember that this is supposed to be fun! Have a great week!

I’m so sorry that your computer is majorly playing up – that makes everything else connected an ongoing misery. I do hope that you can have a bit of space this week to decide what will work best for you. Take care.x

I’m sure your computer isn’t helping with ANYTHING right now 🙂 Take the time you need to take care of you – I took a lot of time away from my blog 2-3 months in because I was going through some issues with work. I didn’t write anything for a month and actually just burned through “backlog” reviews from when I first started…. I re-evaluated once the reviews ran dry and decided to keep going. I felt much more ‘recharged’ in the long run 🙂

Oh no, that is frustrating when the internet and wifi has problems. It’s hard to imagine how I lived without it before (yes, I am that old). Take a rest and take care of yourself, I understand anxiety well and blogging should be fun and not stressful. Here is hoping that you have a better week.

If you feel you need a hiatus to catch up and just take some time for yourself, you should go for it! Everyone needs a break every once in a while, it’s best not to push yourself to the point of burn out. Maybe, if audiobooks are helping you deal with anxiety, you should do an “audiobooks-only” week. I’ve done that myself sometimes, when I just don’t feel like picking up a book for if I’m just not feeling up to focusing on reading. That’s why I find audiobooks so relaxing. I am still making progress on my books, and… Read more »

There’s absolutely no shame in taking a break if you need one. Don’t push yourself too hard, it won’t end well (I can certainly vouch for that).

I hope you can get your computer issues fixed, that sounds very frustrating 🙁 computers are dumb sometimes.

Haha Edelweiss is always tough I guess? Surprisingly I got accepted for 3 books this week while I got rejected for 5 in last week.. and I had same profile update. So I don’t know what they saw this time 😛 But I am so careful with Edelweiss.. I clearly don’t want to just gather books like I did with NetGalley 😀 And Evelina, it’s totally okay if you post less.. I bet no one would mind 🙂 They understand you completely and value all the hard work you have been doing for the #newbloggers Just take some time to… Read more »

This happened to me when I started taking on a lot of extra things with my blog. After a little while of it, you start to realize that you just can’t keep up with everything, no matter how much you’d like to. Give yourself a little grace and you’ll find that healthy balance.

Looks like a great bunch of books. If you feel the need to take some time away, please do. That way you’ll feel like coming back. Hope this improve on the computer front as well. That may be part of the reason you feel you need a hiatus too.

I’m sorry about your computer issues! I always worry about the possibility of those issues when I’m going along, enjoying my routines.

I’m sorry to hear about your computer issues. That’s always so frustrating, so I hope everything gets fixed soon.

I definitely understand the need to drop back on how many times you post each week. I hope that alleviates your anxiety a bit. We would definitely not want you and your wonderful blog to disappear. I hope this week is better for you!

Sometimes a bit of a break is in order. A lighter schedule might be a good idea if you need to do it. Sometimes blogging and life just become overwhelming. Do what you need to do.

Congrats on getting the Audible book for review! That sounds like fun. Have a great week!

It’s definitely important to take time off when you’re feeling overwhelmed. You definitely sound like you’re ALWAYS very active online, and I can’t imagine with real-life on top of all that too. Take care, Evelina. 🙂

Looks like a great haul and yay on the Audible review request!

I know when I start getting burnt out, I just take a random hiatus for a bit, and I basically just decide writing reviews isn’t all that important for a while. It’s maybe not the best strategy for a blogger to employ, but it keeps me from just shutting down completely, so that should count for something, right? LOL.

Hope you feel a bit less stress with the change soon.

I hope you do whatever you need to do to keep your love for blogging alive. If you need a hiatus, then take one. We will all still be here when you get back. It is easy to get overwhelmed when you have all this cool stuff to say and share and so many bloggers to keep up with. One post at a time, one comment at a time (and I know I am behind) but it’s all I can do. Thanks for sharing those links I am going to check them out, as well as your posts that I… Read more »

I admire bloggers who blog as much as you do for example! 🙂 I can barely do a post a week… so definitely take a hiatus (post less whatever) because life is stressful enough.

I really enjoy your blog, but I know how important it is to have a feeling of relaxation and peace, os if you have to take a step back or reduce posts, it makes sense. Sometimes reading tons of books for review without the time to read books for fun can be stressful on its own. Still it’s great that so many authors want you to review their books, and the pits to have to deal with the computer issues. Hang in There! Hugs…RO

Blog breaks are good from time to time, especially if you really really need one, we will still be here when you come back! I do hope your week will get better and that anxiety will go away.

I hauled A LOT of books, but you already read my Sunday Post and know I went crazy with requests.

Have a great week and sending virtual hugs!

I hope your life gets less overwhelming! I might be taking a hiatus too. It’s a busy year.

Hope your computer is fixed! You may be right that it has something to do with the update, though I’m not sure about that one in particular. . . sorry, I have an information technology minor and can’t help trying to diagnose computer issues sometimes, but I have so little information in this case it’s probably best not to listen 🙂

Sometimes taking a little hiatus is good for the soul. It was for me. I don’t feel like I should constantly post. But do whatever makes you feel good. 🙂

Hope the anxiety wears off, I totally understand it. Books are the best remedy.

How annoying when updates aren’t an improvement and you can’t seem to roll back either! It made me laugh as well that you seem to be getting approved less even though you’ve helped plenty of other folks get approved more. Ain’t that a kick in the teeth? I always find Edelweiss can be hit and miss with approvals and it doesn’t always follow a pattern so maybe you’re just stuck in the miss zone right now. If a hiatus is what you need go for it. Taking the pressure off of blogging is important because it’s important for it to… Read more »

I hope you are feeling much better since reducing your posting schedule a bit, but you should definitely take a break if you need it! I don’t have as intense a posting schedule as you do, and I often feel like blogging is kicking my butt, so I understand the need to take a step back and recoup.

Well, I’m glad that you made it through the week! It would be sad to see your blog silent, but you’ve gotta take care of yourself too! Hopefully slowing down for a while will be all you need so you can avoid the full-on hiatus. Though, again, if that’s what you need, then there’s no shame in it. 🙂

I think it’s a really good idea to take it slow for a bit- and I can really relate as well- I’ve been super busy/stressed irl lately (also, I owe you an apology, I’ve not been able to join in with the blogger support group, cos of that, I’m really sorry!) I hope that things get easier for you! Reduced goals certainly help! And I hope you enjoy tess and tattoos- I enjoyed that one!
